Post Body

Bit of different post than usual, but wanted to do my bit with helping to cut out spam and scams. Not like it's a new topic (as with any NSFW) subreddit, but wanting mods to make the problem to go away is only as effective as our collective willingness to put in some effort to recognize spammers and scammers.

There's the obvious stuff like accounts that have postings "for meet ups" in a ton of different geolocations that would be impossible to get to within hours or brand new accounts that have spammed the same Pic over dozens if not hundreds of subs in the span of an hour. Those just require you to hold in your horny just long enough to click on the profile.

What I want to call out are the posts and profiles that take a bit more effort and understanding to catch. The profiles that have taken some measure of care to look as convincing as reasonably possible.

For example, there's a post from a user here earlier today (I won't call them by name as I don't want this post to get tied up in it and possibly taken down, but I've commented on it already) that looks hella convincing, albeit too good to be true. Their profile has a pinned verification, all their posts are seemingly centralized to the west Michigan area, and the pics they're using are of the same person. Did a cursory reverse image search on a random selfie Pic and got results that immediately told me that the pics were just taken from some random Twitter/OF model. That lead me to reverse searching the verification Pic and I found the exact same image of the person with multiple different user names/site links. I see now why there's a reason that verification posts require the paper to be crumpled up now with some kind of doodle. The paper they're holding is clean and it's obvious that whoever takes it is just digitally whiting out whatever was originally written on it and adding their own writing.

Idk what Google changed in the last year or so, but their reverse image search engine is ridiculously powerful now. Like, regardless of if the image is cropped or resized or even slightly altered in some way, I'm able to find accurate results more than 90% of the time with just a single search.

I've been using the internet method for hookups for a while, and on the more old school style forums, this kind of sleuthing is par for the course. Reddit is a much bigger site with subreddits getting WAY more traffic on average, so I'm sharing this as a way for us as posters to help combat spam and scams instead of putting the burden solely on the shoulders of a few mods.

Stay safe out there folks, and happy hunting!
