At 44 I’m not exactly ancient. Granted, for Reddit, I’m not exactly young either. Still, I’ve found that as I get older, I’ve found that making friends is getting trickier. Some of this is because I’m an ass. Or if we want to be charitable, an acquired taste. But beyond that, as you get older you’re like a puzzle piece that’s growing new little bumps and grooves and such and it’s thus harder to figure out where you fit in. If you’re younger, however interesting you may be, you’ve had less time to develop all those quirky things that make you difficult for people to match up with you. Additionally, you find that you’re less interested in bland small talk. So, you want to be able to delve into a discussion with someone that’s got some history to it. But you can’t really make new old friends. You have to go through those hoops. And unfortunately, as you’re getting older, you find more demands on your time that draw you away from those old friends and the things that those friends provided you might vanish because your connection with the friend who provided that for you is severed for reasons neither of you are really to blame for. So, you have this urge to reach out to someone for a connection and your can’t find it and you don’t know how to make a new one like it. Like I said, it’s weird getting older. I’m a grumbly older guy in middle age, I read a lot, I like languages, museums, travel, learning new things. My sense of humor isn’t always appropriate for polite company and I’m a mix of chatty and relatively quiet if we’re not on a good topic. I doubt any of this will appeal, but hope springs eternal. Drop me some info about you and your username and we’ll see where we go from there. I use kik and telegram mostly. The chat thing on here is sort of miss more than hit for me.
