This is not a major issue but I'm very curious if what I said was actually grammatically incorrect or if it's a case of semantics.
I was out with some friends and chatting with one about his brother. I said, "your brother is called Leroy, right?" My friend started making fun of me for my "terrible sentence" I asked him to elaborate further as I felt like what I said wasn't incorrect. He was arguing that his brother isn't "called" Leroy, it's his "name" but he's actually called Lee.
He proceeded to tell me that I was grammatically incorrect, I told him I think this is more of a case of semantics and my sentence is grammatically sound.
However if I am wrong and this is grammatically incorrect I would love to be told so. Also if anyone could explain why I would be greatly appreciative!
