MQTT Data in Grafana not working

I have a Mosquito MQTT server wich works perfectly to post to and to read from via MQTT explorer and my NodeRED. So now I want to display some of this data live in Grafana. So I tried this: https://grafana.com/grafana/plugins/grafana-mqtt-datasource/ however this just gives me null values no matter what I try to query. It’s still in beta and I have read about some bugs. Any idea on how to fix or an alternative to display my live MQTT data?
