Is it worth it to do a Master's in Counseling?
Post Body

I'm almost a year out of undergrad, with a BS in Biology and a BA in Clinical Psychology. I thought I wanted to do a PhD in Clinical Psych, but after reading up on a lot of things, I'm not sure I'm cut out for PhD work. Although I went to a fairly prestigious university, my GPA is pretty low (~3.37) simply because I struggled to keep up with my accomplished peers (came from a public high school where I flew through most of my classes with minimal effort). I haven't taken the GREs yet, but I definitely need to study a lot from the few practice tests I've taken. I also think I'm way more interested in counseling and therapy than research, so I figured a Master's in that would probably be a better fit for me.

However, I'm worried about the cost and the loans I'll have to take out to fund this. I know it's silly to apply for a PhD just because they are funded but I really rather not take out $60k in loans if I'm working towards a salary that's less than stellar. I got out of college with minimal loans, and adding to that burden is scaring the shit out of me.

Anyone with a Master's in Counseling/Therapy/Social Work that can speak for whether it's worth it?
