Low GRE score?
Post Body

Hi everyone,

I just submitted my applications to 6 sociology PhD programs. I have a lot of experience in social service organizations, ran a student organization in undergrad, have great letters of rec/statement of purpose/writing sample, and a decent GPA (3.6). However, I struggled immensely with the GRE. I scored 160v/142q/4.5w. I was really disappointed with my math score but didn't have the time or funds to retake the test and get my quant score up, and I also didn't want to run the risk of scoring lower on the verbal section the second time around. I'm really afraid the quant score is going to jeopardize my chances of admission and put a dent in (my opinion) a fairly strong profile. Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but all the schools I applied to are ranked between 25-70 in the country. I'm trying to think positively and rationally and tell myself that a small aspect of a good profile shouldn't fuck me up immensely, but I'm having a lot of anxiety. Can anyone who had a low GRE score and got accepted tell me their experience or give me words of encouragement?

This waiting period is so stressful! All I can think of are my short-comings.

Thanks!
