Does meeting the “priority deadline” increase your chances of being accepted?

I’m sure it varies quite a bit from program to program but just in general I’m curious. One of the schools I’m applying to has a priority deadline of Jan 20th and a regular deadline of June 1st. All my applications are in and I’m curious if meeting the priority will help or not matter much. The website says “applicants meeting the priority deadline will be given preference for available seats in the program” but I’m not quite sure what that means. Thanks!
