I am applying to PhD programs and a number of the applications ask whether you were on academic or disciplinary probation during your time as a student at another institution. I have a small question about this...
During my last semester of undergrad, I was placed on “residential probation” for having a candle in my dorm room during inspection (candles were on the list of forbidden items in the dorms). My school considered residential probation a different category than disciplinary or academic probation.
My question is: should I say yes to the question on the graduate applications? The violation was very minor and nothing about it appears on my official transcript from the school. Part of me wants to be completely transparent, but the other doesn’t want to open my mouth and let this silly thing mess up my chances of getting in. Basically, will grad schools snoop on me or request my housing/residence records and find out about this? What should I do?
