How to recover from a professor not coming through for you?
Post Body

I recently applied to a graduate program and asked one of my professors to write a letter of recommendation for me. They agreed and asked me to write my own. I did and got it to them a week before the deadline. They have not submitted it and the deadline was December 15th. I have sent them numerous reminders from the application site and texted them. They have not responded to my texts and seem to be avoiding me. I am trying to be reasonable and not hate them but I am confused how they could show a blatant disregard for my future? I held this person in such high regard and to find out they suck (no better words) is a bit heartbreaking.

Edit:Got another recommender on short notice who just submitted my letter 😁. Still kinda upset at the original one who flaked with no notice but whatever.

Comments

This happened with a manager of mine. We were super cool (or so I thought) and they advised they would be honored to write me an LOR…. Fast forward two emails, two phone calls, and two texts later.. he literally ghosted me. Even though I gave him a 6 week notice. I was scrambling looking for a replacement the week before it was due.

I don’t understand why they just can’t be blunt and say “sorry, I can’t do it” versus ghosting us and almost ruining our future prospects.
