Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experiences with homeless individuals at Union Station during my morning commute. I commute very early, between 6am and 7am, from Mimico to Union Station, and I've noticed a concerning trend.
Every morning, I encounter numerous homeless individuals in the halls of Union Station who appear to be struggling with drug use. They often yell loudly, and some even go as far as to dry their clothes on the railings above the escalators.
Recently, I had a particularly alarming encounter when I stepped out to grab a coffee before my next train. A homeless individual started charging towards me, threatening to harm me. Naturally, I immediately retreated back inside.
What's concerning is the lack of response from security personnel. Despite their presence, they seem to do nothing to address the disruptive behavior of these individuals. They simply watch as they wreak havoc throughout Union Station.
I want to emphasize that I understand the challenges faced by homeless individuals, and I sympathize with their situation. However, the aggressive behavior of some of them is making many commuters, including myself, feel unsafe.
Is this a normal occurrence at Union Station? I've only been commuting for two months, and most days, I find myself constantly looking over my shoulder in fear of something happening.
I'm sharing this to raise awareness and hopefully initiate a discussion about potential solutions or actions that could improve the safety and security of commuters at Union Station. Thank you for taking the time to read.
