Can't install some apps due to incorrectly detected android version?

Post Body

I'm on an S5 mini, and when I first got this phone it was on Android 4.1 or something. currently it's now on 6.0.1, but the Play Store seems to still think it's on its original version.
Some apps that require things like "Android 4.4 or higher" are hidden on my phone playstore, and when I check it on PC, it says they're incompatible with my device.
I can get them through APK and they work fine, but this way I have to download and install a new APK version every time the app updates, which is a real pain. I also encountered one or two recently that say something along the lines of the app being obtained incorrectly when installed via APK and not launching.

Is there any solution to this?
