MTS Files Not Recognized by Google Photos for Backup on Pixel

Not sure why - but I have a folder of 8 mts files - I changed the file extension to be lower case - but the files (and folder) are still not recognized by google photos. Not sure what needs to be done - but I want to upload them via my phone - as the original quality will be uploaded and not take from my bucket - any advice?
