Dumb down version please - import to iCloud
Post Body

So I have 60,000 plus images/videos in Google Photos (that is all it tells me, I can't find a full number). I am trying to migrate over to iCloud as we have upgraded computers and phones and I feel like using an apple product with apple stuff is a better idea (plus we are paying for storage there). I already went to Google Takeout, and unzipped all the files. I found the .json files were not always in the same folder as the pic (came in a different zip file, if that makes sense). So I combined all of the unzipped files into one folder (titled "pics"). I then went to import them into Photos on my Mac, however I have two issues.

1) not all the metada transferred over (or was missing?). so some photos from 2013 are showing in 2023 for example.

2) Photos on my mac only says I have 32,000, so I am not sure if I am missing 1/2 of my photos, or what is going on. I have gone back to the unzipped folders and have confirmed that they are indeed empty, so there are no leftovers.

Can anyone give me the easiest (free preferably) way to do this, I haven't even started on my wife's photos yet, so this is a bit daunting. I know the select 500 at a time and download trick, but with as many photos as I have, that is going to super suck. I am not techy enough to use a script, and I am not too keen on purchasing a program for this one time thing.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am going to try to remove the photos from the mac and re-import to see if anything changes,
