Hi folks! I'm soliciting some advice for a large setup with two living areas.
Main stuff:
- 54 Lutron lights & fans 11 Serena blinds on a Bridge Pro
- 2 Nest Hello 2 Nest x Yale
- 2 nest mini, 1 Home speaker, 1 Nest Hub, Nest Thermostat
- With each LG TV in the house, there's a Chromecast Ultra.
And then some ancillary stuff:
- Two full sets of LG appliances plus 3 LG mini split indoor units via ThinQ
- B-hyve for irrigation
- myQ/Liftmaster for garage
- And a smattering of smart plugs with Kasa.
This is all spread across two units/residences on this property. I guess it could be described as a duplex for our purposes here. I live in one of the sides, and I run the other side as an AirBnB. With plans on alternating based on season.
I've set everything up under one Google "Home". But, of course, when you say something like "Turn off all lights", it turns off all of the lights across both residences. I want to be able to control everything across both units, but I don't really want guests to cast stuff to my TV, or turn off my lights, etc.
So, I'm tempted to set up a separate Home in the app, but before I start re-creating the rooms and re-assigning 100 devices, I wanted to ask if anyone has any advice or ran into any issues or limitations with this idea. Also, suggestions for when the guests interact with the Google devices.
FYI, the Google ecosystem is just my first phase. I have a Raspberry Pi with an older hass.io that I plan to eventually finish setting up. But really, I can see myself procrastinating that for another year, because everything seems to work so well just with the Google layer alone. And last time I integrated hass.io (on a previous test home), things got really complicated, really fast. Still, I plan on bringing in some sensors, and doing some motion/temp/humidity/timing triggers for some true automation. "Some day". For now, I'll just run Home.
