How do I disable google assistant response audio on Google Hub?

My wife and I have been trying to disable the sound of google assistant responding on our nest hub in the bedroom.
To clarify, we want google assistant to listen to our requests, like turn on or off the lights, but we don’t want to hear the assistant respond every time.
Is there a way to disable the audio response from the assistant? We tried the obvious and turning down the audio all the way didn’t work.
