What’s up my fellow boot nerds, the Field & Forrest Moc Toe boots are on sale for $139.99. You won’t find a better deal on USA made boots.
The Field & Forrest boots are made, well were made by Thorogood. Thorogood confirmed to me that the boots with the leaf logo are boots that they made but the boots with the dog logo were made by someone else. It’s a roll of the dice which one you’ll get. I ordered two pairs, one for me and one as a gift for my dad. Mine were the leaf logo and his has the dog logo. The different branding is what got me motivated to investigate the rumors regarding Thorogood making the boots.
In terms of leather quality both are nice. I will say that mine, the boots with the leaf logo, have a stiffer leather than the boots my dad got with the dog logo. His felt much softer and more like the leather on my Thorogood boots, while mine on the other hand, felt more like the leather on my 877s. Leather thickness is on par with Thorogood and Red Wing measuring in at 2.53mm.
Moc Toe construction is a single stitch just like a Thorogood boot. I prefer a single stitch moc toe for my work boot’s anyway.
Welt looks identical to Thorogood and Carolina boots.
Midsole is a gray rubber material and I’m told by Thorogood that the boots have a cork layer between the Texon fiber board insole and the midsole.
The outsole is a Vibram Christy thick wedge that’s stitched to the welt around the toe area.
Removable insole isn’t great but I can wear them all day at work without issue.
As far as fit and size go, they are true length. I am a 11.5 on a Brannock and 11.5 fits me perfectly. These do run wider at the toe box than Thorogood boots do. Overall the boot is wider and a bit more sloppy looking than a Thorogood or a Red Wing.
For $130 I think they are totally worth it and make a great cheap work boot or a good boot to send to a cobbler and have them rebuild with a leather welt and leather midsole. I plant on getting some veg tanned leather and making my own insoles to replaces the ones that come with them.
