What's up with all the spam on Goodreads lately?

In the last few months, I've experienced a massive increase in people liking EVERYTHING I do on Goodreads for seemingly no good reason. And I'm not talking about reviews, it's just me adding books I want to read. No new followers (maybe a few, but I have less than 10 overall) and no increase in friend requests. Looking at some of the accounts, they usually have less than 10 connections and few, if any, books or reviews added.

It seems obvious to me that these are bots... but I don't understand why? There's seemingly no nefarious purpose as there's never any followup, it's just strange.
