It has been many months since the last rain fall. Your village was lucky enough for the harvest to be close enough so that the sudden drought caused little damage, but it was becoming clear that if your village was going to survive the rain would have to start soon. Although many prayers to the gods have been sent there has not been even a drop of rain in response and the people were starting to get desperate. With the sudden increase in people coming to the village shrine to pray you have been working tirelessly under your teacher, the head priest, to accommodate the people.
One day a hunter barges into the shrine and interrupts prayer, while the people are quick to anger you see that the hunter is tired but clearly frightened. He tells you of a dragon that has taken residence in the hill not far from town. The description of the dragon fits that of a legend, a Ryu.
Although such a dragon is rare and the hunter says he only caught the quickest of glances before running, the hope that a dragon such a this could bring an end to this drought is enough to win over the hearts of the people. There is talk on how to approach such a divine beast, ranging from what little food the village has left to the finest women in the village. It isn’t until the head priest speaks up that all voices fall silent.
He says that if we are to give anything to the dragon it must be a male who has not laid with the person whom they shall share their heart with. This being a small town, most of the people who live in the town are either attached, too young, or too old, there is only one person who could fit such a description. You suddenly realize why you are here with your teacher in front of the village. As he turns to walk away you are frozen with a sense of fear and betrayal weighing you down. Your teacher gives one sad glance towards you as he walks away and leaving you with the villagers who have clearly gotten the message.
You are sent out of the village with two guards at your side. Once you reach the hill where the hunter spotted the dragon they order you forwards and quickly flee. You slowly trudge through the thickening vegetation of the forest before reaching a clearing. At the center of the clearing is a temple, it has a similar design to that of your own shrine but much grander.
The ground rumbles and a mighty dragon emerges from entrance and circles around outside like a snake coiling its prey. It looks down at you, its eyes full of power, you filled with the desire to kneel, and your legs give out forcing you to the ground. you can hear the dragon slithering on the ground and you feel smooth, sharp fingers running through your hair.
“Are you here as an offering?” It says in a mature, almost motherly voice, “Come with me, little one, we should not keep those who sent you waiting.”
