This is my response to the request made by /r/auralham a while ago. =)
Original text; English translation in verse here.
Since I don’t have three hands, LOL, I held the recorder on my chest and it caught a ghost of the heartbeat, too.
STORYTIME
So, the letter comes from a public domain novel in verse ‘Eugene Onegin’ (1825-1832), and is written by a naïve and romantic country girl to a cynical and disenchanted Byronic character who came to his country estate, fed up with meaningless high society life in the capital city of St.Petersburg. At the time such a letter was an equivalent of today’s nude picture, mind you. :D No L-bombs in there, though.
The author is most certainly not spinning in his grave, he was quite a bad boy and a womanizer; I bet he’d find it hilarious.
The whole novel, read by Stephen Fry can be found here, translated by James E. Falen; it’s one of the forty English translations of the thing, and a lovely one, preserving the meter of the Onegin stanza and the rhyming scheme, too.
Spoiler: later in the novel Onegin writes her a steamy letter, too. ;D
P.S. A SFW illustration of one of the novel’s episodes, featuring Tatiana. :D I am not making this up, it is in the book.
Other weird stuff here, including the scripts.
