I met my wife back in early 2017. From the first time I visited them in South Florida we golfed together.
I’ve golfed on and off since I was a kid… played when I was in middle school, nothing in high school, played a bit when I was in college, then very infrequently after that until I met my in-laws.
My wife’s parents and her brother both live in beautiful country club communities. Particularly her parents, they are in a fairly small community with two pristine 18-hole courses.
I caught the golf bug from them - I rekindled my love of the sport, and realized it was the outlet I was looking for in my life- physically challenging, mentally challenging, and something I can do (hopefully) for the rest of my life.
But over the past 5 years they’ve WHOOPED my ass. Even my 73 year old mother-in-law can hand my ass to me out on the course.
Over the past year I finally found an instructor I meshed with, and I’ve seen some improvement in my game, but due to COVID I haven’t seen my in-laws until now.
I shot a 91 on Monday, and a 90 today. I beat my father-in-law today for the first time ever (admittedly he wasn’t playing his best but still), and my brother-in-law who’s a 3 handicap kept commenting on how much I’ve improved.
My three best shots today:
Two sand saves out of the only two bunkers I hit all day. The first one the ball stopped two inches from the hole, and the second one I made the 8ft putt for the save.
The third was my approach to one of the hardest holes on the course. It’s a stiff dogleg right, with an intimidating lake between the tee box and the hole, and a very narrow fairway. My tee shot rolled just off the fairway into the rough, leaving my about 170 to the flag. My 3-wood is my 180 club (I’m not a long hitter by any means), so I hit it nice and soft and carried to 3 feet from the hole. My ball rolled out into the fringe, and I made the putt for par.
Lastly - the course we played today has tough island greens for both 9 and 18, and today was the first day I hit both greens without losing a ball into the water!
I’m like a little kid on Christmas. I’ve had some really atrocious rounds playing with my family, so I’m fucking stoked to finally hold my own around them!
Let’s go baby!! Keep the progress going and bottle this feeling. Won’t always be easy and progression is definitely always linear but your worst rounds will get better and better as the months and years go by.
But I’m sure you already know this haha I’m stoked on golf right now because I spent the last two days playing 36 holes at 4 different PGA west in Palm Springs for my dads birthday
Dangar is for sure projecting with these responses 😂

Blah blah blah I’m FliggityFly and the game comes really easy to me.. like I don’t even really try.
I’ve shot the weeks lowest score at my local free 9 hole municipal times TWICE… Been playing from the blue tees since I was 7, only use 3 mulligans a round, and can keep score for the 4some and will never miss what stroke everyone is to ensure no one is cheating. And yes, I guess I’m lucky since I always get a good bounce and never go out of bounds.
Also, I like being negative toward golf newcomers try hards online and take pride in my Reddit avatar looking like everyone’s least favorite person blah blah blah
