Garmin Approach s60 impressions
Post Body

A little background; I have tried using a number of devices for yardages in golf. I used my phone (battery problems and honestly, I always feel like a jerk being on my phone), a Microsoft Band 2 (loved it, had to have it replaced 5 times, it was eventually discontinued), a Pebble Time (pile of shit), a Breaking80 Range Finder (I'm sure it was fine but I just didn't like using a range finder...and I accidentally left it behind after my second round with it), and creating my own yardage books (fun but not super useful and super time consuming).

Anyway, I finally decided I want to get back to a smart watch for daily use and started looking at Garmin's. That's when I came across the promotional video for the s60. Holy shit it does everything! At least in theory. So I bought it and have been using it all week. I have a couple full rounds and a couple nine holers in there. The experience has been....

AMAZING

Holy shit. First the watch looks great. It's the most appealing looking smart watch, to me, that I have used. It looks like a traditional mens watch. The raised rim and the traditional three buttons on the side make it less ostentatious and "weird" than the Moto 360, which I appreciate. The screen is great and responsive. Band is what it is.

The golf features are holy shit. I'm sure this is how all the Garmin's are but as this is my first, I am blown away. Without using any phone or other device I get the hole layout, distances, can tap to get distances to hazards/landing zones/cart girls, anything you want. And it's instant. I can't believe how little lag there is. Take a step? Distance adjusts. Perfect. It also tracks every shot (outside of putts) without any input from the user. This is then mapped onto the course in the Garmin Connect app. What really blew me away was the ability to pull up weeks worth of rounds and overlay them on top of each other.

There are also additional features to work on swing tempo and connect it to a truswing device but honestly I probably will never use those.

Anyway, I can say without a doubt hands down this is the best GPS/Smart Watch I have ever tried and the best method for on course distances AND shot tracking I've used. Absolutely fantastic product.

Only drawback is that it's expensive, but I ended up picking it up during Golf Galaxy's cyber monday sale last week so I got it 20% off.

I'd be happy to answer any questions as I know first hand impressions on the device are basically non-existent right now.

I have no idea. That connect seems cool, have to look into it and really figure out all of its features

Playing around on my laptop and I have to say, this connect thing is cool. Track your rounds, shows all relevant data. Def helps to see it all that info. Best of all is ease of input through the watch. Def happy about my purchase.

Watch goes on leading wrist. So left for right handed swingers. I have never played with a watch, and used mine during tournament play yesterday with no issue. It was awesome to be able to get lengths to hazard and green etc instantaneously. It's not pin point accurate, by within 4 yards which is perfectly fine by me.

This watch is super light so I really didn't notice it in all honesty. I can't wait to keep digging and find more feature.

Just got mine as well. Amazing!
