Played Saturday with some guys I typically play with on a regular basis. One of the guys is a tad annoying, has zero etiquette, and just "doesn't get it". So why do I golf with him? He's a mutual friend of all of us and the "nice guy" in me feels bad excluding him. But maybe not so much any more. Let me explain...
For the most part I don't like to know my score at the turn. We always place a bet on the front 9 so I typically just ask "Did I win/lose" and leave it at that. Except AssHat (AH from here on out) was keeping score and announced I got a 44, a VERY good front 9 for me. I tried to shrug it off and not think about it... any guesses where this is going?
Pop in the clubhouse for a couple of dogs and some beer making sure I made it clear I'm trying not to think about the possibilities. AH didn't seem to understand that concept and kept saying shot like "you could have your best round today" and "I hope you don't choke on the back 9"... GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Teeing off on the 10th and AH says (after my set up but just before my back swing) "Don't screw up that 44". Pretty good drive. 2nd shot and AH continues with the "take your time, focus, don't screw up your heading for your best round"... duff second shot. No surprise there, right?
By the 12th hole AH has pissed me off so much that my game completely went to shit. Ended with a 58 on the back 9... thanks AH! Was hoping to break 90... couldn't even beat 100.
tl;dr If you have a good front 9 and you golf with "that guy", just knock him out before you tee off on the 10th and save yourself some aggravation.
