Snow bird alert: it's cold out! Where can we find $30-$40 green fees and <$80/night lodging? ($50/night even better!), even cheap beer? All ideas are welcome. My goal is to flush out as many places with hotels and green fees that are affordable in warm places so we can get away. I personally would go for the whole winter if I could afford to do so!
Lots of threads talk about this subject but rates, budgets, wants and needs fluctuate so I am starting another. Will try to drill down to find other like-minded users here who are in same predicament.
Please reply if you know any destinations and golf courses in destinations that have cheap rental cars or nearby walking distance hotels that are in good shape, are fairly priced, not too packed, etc.
If anyone is a Marriott or other hotel elite, and knows properties where points can be used list them too! I have Marriott points I could use for the lodging side. Maybe others want to know about these too.
Alabama: I've read the Robert Trent Jones Trail is a good option, but when I tried to look at rates and lodging was a bit overwhelmed. Hate to plant myself down there and regret the decision.
Been to Arizona was really nice, but I hear in winter is super expensive and the Canucks hogging on the place.
Saw a suggestion to go to South Africa but no courses named. Any thoughts?
Spain and Portugal language an issue and could be packed in winter. So foreign.
Been to FL and on the Atlantic Coast lots of courses but not sure if they are cheap or not in winter. Also hotels?
Heard good things about Gulf Coast but don't know the area. Same goes for Orlando.
Mexico: anything there? Where, what?
Punta Cana or Costa Rica? I know there's like Teeth of the Dog down there but must be super primo $s.
Hilton Head and Myrtle are cold. Been there and was frost on ground but warmed up, but not cheap where I went (Caledonia and True Blue). Thoughts?
Heard Georgia. Went to expensive Sea Island once. Way too expensive. Played a muni once in Atlanta back in the 80s. Need ideas, specifics.
Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, New Mexico, etc. There must be good cheap golf in these places, right?
Anywhere. I want to go right now, and stay as long as I can. I could stay and play at the same golf course 7 days a week and walk and be happy. Thanks!
