Why do I miss a gimme every time I actually line it up, but tap it and it goes in?

Pretty much the title. A random I got paired with today told me I should just start putting normal by just hitting it. I’m talking 2 ft or so putts. At this point I’m just trying to see how far I can just nonchalantly hit the ball towards the hole and it continue to go in, bc lining it up damn sure isn’t working!
