My erroneous proof - no longer doing Goldbach, one day at a time
Post Body

Hello my name is keithreid-sfw and I am a recovering Goldbach crank. It was fairly contained.

I spent a week or so on it during which I was on leave and got a new pet I had to be with. It ended up being a break from some work related coding and stats. It was fun.

I reasoned that there were different classes of primes, for example that prime factors of even numbers were F-primes. I built constraints for them as to how they could sieve composites. I saw patterns in how they interacted in a data structure called a p-row which was an ordered list of partitions of the even number. I verified for small numbers and a some large numbers. I was unlucky enough that those verifications worked. I asked r/learnmaths to refute me and got blown up because 230 - 2 did not follow my hypothesis.

I had wrongly discounted certain composites.

r/learnmath were polite and the discussion was civil

I got as far as writing a paper, sending that to maths experts, and sending it a journal of reknown. I retracted it instantly. Nothing was made public, no press conferences. I remained sceptical thank goodness.

I am walking away from Goldbach. I relapsed a bit this morning writing Python scripts on my mobile.

Be strong people. It’s okay not to be Ramanujan.
