Is hardcoding dialogue a viable option ?

I tried to find tutorial that explain how to make a dialogue tree but couldn't find one thats more than just dumping a bunch of lines in a json file without any player choice so I'm thinking of hardcoding dialogues in a script for my game project (2d RPG) since it's the only way I could do that with my limited knowledge of coding.
Is it gonna be a problem for performance? Or is there some other issue with that I'm not seeing?
