GMRS Midland setup question

Thanks for your help. I’ve got a Midland MA275 paired with the Midland ghost antenna. Antenna is placed on the front fender of my steel f-150.

I setup the midland on ch 20 with no privacy code. Wanted a simple test between the radio and my handheld Motorola family radio. Works as expected.

Here’s the Question, I’m Denver area and my Motorola hand held is picking up broadcasts that my Midland does not. Sounds like someplace north of Denver.

I’ve tested with the ghost and the PCTEL that came with the radio.

What may be the cause of the missed broadcast?

I have a GMRS license and want to partake in the community.
