I've had them remade twice now and I'm still having issues.
The first pair was made at the same place where I found the frames. I noticed that I could hardly look towards the sides with my eyes before there was distortion. The reading portion also seemed tiny. On top of that, I would notice when reading, i would see another transparent copy of text overlaying on top. I was told that the lenses could be upgraded so there would be less distortion, but that moving the progressive part of the lens up would cause more distortion on the sides, essentially canceling out any difference that upgrading the lens would help with.
I made an appointment with my eye doctor's office and explained everything, and they said that wasn't necessarily the case. They also said they had control over those specifications, and the optician at the other place said the way it was made was mostly up to the lab?
I decided to have the lenses refunded and keep the frames, and took them to my eye doctor's office to have them made there, where they also explain the distortion and what a corridor was. When i got them, the corridor was wider - it was much better and no longer an issue, but this time there was distortion in the reading portion. The further down in the progressive portion I look (within the corridor), the more distorted it gets. It's hard to describe because it's not quite normal blur. I can still make out whatever I'm reading, but it loses clarity and there's extra copies of what im seeing slightly above and below. If I'm looking at text, there might be a faint copy of words stretching out below, another smaller one right above, etc. I noticed if I get close enough, all of that gets much better.
I made another appointment to discuss all of this, and I had a hard time explaining what I mean by distortion. When i mentioned it improves when I get very close I was told it's because I'm not close enough and I just haven't learned how to use the glasses right yet. I know how to use progressive lenses. I shouldn't have to hold things 4 inches from my face to get them to look right, but he didn't seem to agree. I had the glasses remade again, and my prescription bumped up slightly (I was warned it would worsen the distortion on the sides a bit).
I still have the same issues, although i think it's slightly better. Unfortunately the distortion on the sides is noticeably worse, and for some reason moreso on the left than the right. also, I notice distortion in one lens and not the other often when looking at things, like it doesn't line up well or something? (took me a while to figure out that was what was causing the strange feeling with my eyes sometimes with these glasses) which I never noticed with the first two.
I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on what could be causing the distortion thing because I'm honestly really frustrated and I'm embarrassed having to go back again still having issues. I even got another opinion from a different eye doctor and all he said was to try a weaker prescription.. I don't think that's the solution because bumping it up didn't make it any worse, and my first pair didn't have the issue.
