Heatwaves was gonna be the song to go viral. It has the relatability of a chart topper, everyone can relate to losing/separating from a friend or lover. It has that generic pop sound, the one that Glass Animals really isn’t known for. Especially in Zaba and Leaflings. The use of sounds and unconventional beats mean that the average person won’t like them. But Heatwaves doesn’t really incorporate their usual pizzazz, so that means it will be more conveniently liked. It also has that seasonal feature, the same thing that Christmas songs have. The same thing we’re experiencing right now. Just like all the other songs featuring summer, Heatwaves will return back to social media and the charts.
But all this doesn’t mean it’s a bad song. It’s just overplayed. Heatwaves contributed a lot to Glass Animals. It was their first #1 hit. Many discovered the band through this song. I myself did. But it doesn’t mean I’m any less of a fan, just because I didn’t know them before they got big. And it doesn’t make this any less of a good song. As much as we universally hate it, it will come back. But let’s embrace Heatwaves, it’s benefited Glass Animals so much.
