Ooops - title should be 'up to £35', not £25
Uber Credit
First off, enter 'glasgow15' into your Uber 'pomotions' page on the phone app and you'll get £15 credit. 'savethestudent15' also does the same.
If you have a friend you're always sharing a taxi with, it'll be better for one person to sign up, use glasgow15 and then give your taxi buddy your referral code (found under the 'free rides' link on the app) and you'll each get £10 credit when the referred friend signs up.
General Info
Me and a friend were doing some research into Uber and I thought I'd share my findings. It's just for general interest but also because some of you might want to become Uber drivers (£11 an hour ain't so bad when you can choose your hours).
If you want to become an Uber driver, you have to do the following things:
- 1) Sign up to Uber (duh)
- 2) Get a Private Hire License from Glasgow City Council
- 3) Inform your insurance company
- 4) Your car needs to seat 4 people comfortably
Sounds simple but step 2 is a significant barrier to entry because it takes a few months for one of these AND the links to the forms on GCC website have been missing all week (all links go to blank pages).
You'll need to be of a reasonable age (can't be too young although this isn't defined), you have to pass a crminal record check and your car has to be clean/tidy.
Personal Opinion
There aren't many Uber taxi drivers about just now so they'll be really busy.
In 3 months time we'll have a lot more drivers if people are currently applying (if they can even get the forms to do so).
Some are speculating that taxi drivers will jump ship for the better pay and no radio-rental fees (approx £200 a week). It makes sense as they all have private hire licenses and meet the other requirements but they've also been threatened with being blacklisted at cab companies if they do drive for Uber.
Additionally, Uber only has a license to operate for 1 year in Glasgow. After that, they could be banned so no-one driving for a living is likely to work for a company that might only be around for a year.
Now does anyone have any info/sources that taxi cabs are run by criminal gangs?
