I started a new job this week and Wednesday was my second day in the office in town. I've been working nearly exclusively from home for the past three years so a trip into town to work with people in "real life" has been great.
The good start to the week ended pretty quickly. I got home on Wednesday evening and later that night went to get my laptop out of my bag to realise that some fucker must have stolen it from my bag in the short walk between the office and Central station or on the train home.
So Thursday morning I set off early to get into the office to try and sort out the shit show. As I got to my local station a train pulled in so I jumped straight on and got off at Central. I queued to pay for a ticket only for contactless on my phone not to work - I've never had this happen before, the card machine didn't beep or decline, just a whole lot of nothingness. The woman at the desk was a miserable fucker who implied I was trying to dodge a £2.70 fare "everyone else's worked fine".
At this point a random guy paying for his ticket next to me lent over and tapped his card to pay for my mine. I could have cried. I'd had such a shit start to the week with my laptop being stolen and this bit of kindness restored my faith in people.
I got to the office and found I'd in fact just left the laptop in the middle of my desk (ADHD is real even if you can't get a diagnosis). What a twat I am.
I genuinely do think that People Make Glasgow ❤️
