Currently an in patent at the Royal, on a ward full with very sick mostly older men.
I wish I was joking writing this but that 20 mins of a down pour we had last night has caused a foot deep flood on the ward, complety soaking some of the patents who couldn't move out of there beds, while also causing the lights to go out and the electricity to be faulty( which of course is extremely dangerous in a ward full of old men who could slip into being very unwell, very fast)
This has caused most of the bays, designed to sleep 4 people being stuffed with 6-8 beds meaning the little privacy and dignity offered on such a ward being unachievable, whilst atleast 2 patents having to sleep in the corridor this evening.
How can it be acceptable for a hospital in a city the size of Glasgow(greater glasgow as a whole) be allowed to be in such a poor state that 20 minutes of rain, all be it relatively heavy, can cause such damage to patent safety, care and dignity? How have we as a people allowed the government, both holyrood and Westminster, to strave such an import national infrastructure to the point that the building itself isn't fit for purpose? I mean it's not like we don't get rain much in Scotland.
I'd like to add that I by no means find fault with any staff, all the nurses/doctors/maintenance staff ext worked extremely hard to sort the situation as best they could and have been nothing sort of excellent in the care they are providing me, they deserve to work in a health care system that is correctly funded, and pays them an acceptable wage for the work they do.
