The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails and parkways.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of GIS Analyst for Web Mapping and Data Development, Environmental Analyst III. 
This person will be responsible for:
Researching and testing new GIS tools and diverse workflows for GIS projects with the aim of providing better GIS solutions as well as helping grow the skillsets and solutions that the GIS office can provide for other projects.
Creating, collecting, managing and analyzing spatial and tabular data.
Creating ArcGIS Online Maps, Applications, StoryMaps, Dashboards, etc. to improve access to, analysis of, and communication about natural and infrastructure resources at DCR
Providing GIS training and support to other DCR staff using desktop GIS software, ArcGIS Online, and field data collection apps.
Performing data analyses using GIS and remote sensing data to answer questions about DCR physical and natural resources.
Writing and updating documentation for methodologies and workflows to increase the knowledge base for the entire office.
Creating and managing field data collection using Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps. Train other staff to use these applications, provide technical support and QA/QC data.
Communicating complex ideas and concepts using maps (paper, digital, and interactive), employing good cartographic practices.
Working with a diverse group of DCR professionals to develop and assimilate data schema, program/office goals, and data requirements into GIS workflows.
Working with other agencies, non-profit groups, federal and local governments, and at times the general public to bring in required data and ideas and communicate information back out to these groups.
Utilizing GIS desktop and online software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) to create, manage, and analyze data. Make maps and create apps for use by DCR staff.
Conducting field work to identify resources and verify conditions using GPS and other mapping technologies.
Representing DCR on cooperative planning initiatives.
Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health, of which (B) at least two years must have been in a professional capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions: I. An Associate's degree with a major in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology,. natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* II. A Bachelor's degree with a major in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.* III. A Graduate degree with a major in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience and one year of the required (B) experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of one year of the required (B) experience.
