So, I'm not even sure if what I'm looking to do is possible. All of my experience with GIS this far has dealt with using CAD drawings and shapefiles with raster layers or basemaps to create for print maps.
My boss has asked if there was a way to connect an access database to ArcMaps so that as we input data from the field into a tablet running MS Access, it also connects to the GIS spatial database (I don't have much experience using file geodatabases or personal geodatabases, but have gone through the basic ArcGIS workbook tutorials for them). Ideally we could then view the data in ArcMap and query survey data using spatial analysis. The access data would likely have a tablefor locations (an X,Y location) with data about the facility, would be connected to inventory data. In a perfect world, this would function as an interactive map that could be accessed through the web, and I know ESRI had all sorts of web app stuff, but I don't think I have the CS skills to accomplish that.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Even just articles, forum threads, etc about connecting Arc to Access would help a lot.
Thanks.
