Ginger bug for newbie

I just started to grow my ginger bug yesterday. I sterilize a mason jar and when cooled added 250ml of water, 10g of chopped ginger and 10g of sugar. Covered it with a napkin and rubber band. Today I will add more ginger and sugar. I am following the instructions I found on-line. I am just wondering if this is the correct way to start?
