Overheat, all safety failed, molten keycaps, AORUS 15P KD
Post Body

If anyone from Gigabyte wants to get in touch with me that would be great. I bought a laptop from Alternate GMBH (now just out of warranty). It overheated while I wasn't using it and whatever's supposed to trigger a shutdown at the motherboard level did not. Half of keycaps on the keyboard are molten and cannot be pressed. The mechanism below seems ok. Surprised the laptop still works. However, I can't seem to get a reply from anyone, their Germany RMA center won't answer the phone, alternate says to shove it cause warranty, yada yada.

I'm willing to pay something for repair as I understand it's out of warranty, and at the same time I will be STRONGLY hesitant to buy this brand laptop next time, because it's just not ok that it overheats so much that it melts its own keyboard! Nothing particular happened to it either, never exposed to water or anything else. Simply whatever circuit (thermistor?) should sit on the MB and cut power when it gets too hot, apparently did not fire.

Does anyone have a number where I can actually reach someone? I see some "replacement keycaps" online ("Quikfix Laptop Keyboard Keys") but

  • no photos

  • I unfortunately have a german keyboard (not that I wanted it or anything) so I hesitate to buy keys that may not even fit due to different possible layout/shape

  • 14$ each and I need dozens.

Therefore I'd much rather send it somewhere that can just return it in usable condition.
