Do you guys REALLY think a legacy sequel would have been good?
Post Body

I understand you guys hate the reboot, and I'm willing to accept that at least some of you hate it more or less fairly.

What I do find hard to believe is that people really put that much faith in the "legacy sequel would've been better" argument aside from the fact that it's not what exists. It's easy to back it now because it's a hypothetical that can be whatever it wants to be, but there are more Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls and A Good Day to Die Hards out there than there are Creeds.

It seems even more iffy when you factor in the likelihood that Murray would have passed, leaving us with Aykroyd and Hudson (assuming you aren't demanding time travel as well). I like both of them, but I don't know if they alone can successfully generate the kind of energy to make a legacy sequel feel like an underattended birthday party (for kids that preferred to see He-Man or otherwise).

Set aside anything that you knew about before the Sony leak, place yourself in March 2014 when Ivan Reitman was going out to other directors, and tell me: what do you think the odds are that movie will be good?

(I promise, I have no actual agenda with this question, I'm legitimately curious. In the interest of generating some goodwill, I'll even say this: when there was word Reitman was courting Lord and Miller of 21 Jump Street to direct, I definitely had a real blast of confidence in a legacy sequel, so feel free to add any filmmakers or actors you would've liked to see involved as well.)
