Elliptical Tubes Pointless?

Is it just me or are elliptical tubes pretty much pointless? As someone who has most of the girth come from the “top to bottom”, and less from the across the top, my tube usually fills from top to bottom first, leaving the sides to be filled as the set goes on.
Am I missing something with elliptical tubes, that I otherwise would get with regular tubes? Wouldn’t i still grow in “lateral” girth in a traditional round tube as much as I would in the elliptical tube?
