u/karlwikman asks:
"Do you think there could be a benefit to doing cycles? 3 months lenghtwork, 3 months girthwork, etc."
Yes absolutely!
Adaptation is an inevitability with the human body.
When the body encounters stressors it will adapt in order to become more resilient against those stressor.
PE follows the principle of Davis' law. Late 19th century orthopedic surgeon Henry Davis specialized in traction methods after soft tissue injuries or surgeries and his findings were this:
“Ligaments, or any soft tissue, when put under even a moderate degree of tension, if that tension is unremitting, will elongate by the addition of new material."
Similar to Davis's law is Wolf's law which states:
"Over time, bones that are forced to carry heavy loads will adapt, reforming and becoming stronger in response to the strain they are placed under."
NOW, with that being said, all the previous stressors that caused these changes (like hanging with 6lbs) will eventually be ineffective because of the bodies new adaptations.
The solution?…
Variation of stimuli!
When one stressor ceases to challenge the body in such a way that adaptation is necessary, the stressor MUST increase, or be changed such that it presents a novel stimuli.
In plain terms, to avoid accommodation, or in this case to see continuous gains, the rotation of stressors such as length work, blood flow restriction work, and girth work must be rotated so that the body never adapts to any one stressor.
Hope this answers your question!
