There's been a lot of talk lately about allowing non-EU residents of Germany the possibility to keep their citizenship and not be forced to give it up in order to acquire German citizenship. Parliament is supposed to vote on it in December though when that change in citizenship law will come into effect is yet unclear.
While that would be nice, I am way more concerned and focused about the possibility of shortening the waiting time before you can apply for citizenship from 8 years to 5 years as has been rumored. I feel like more focus both from politicians and journalists should be put on that as well, they all seem to underestimate or blatantly disregard just how long people have to wait for German citizenship and how many precious years of their lives are wasted essentially waiting for a passport. We all have goals and objectives in our lives and mine are eternally postponed and delayed until I get German citizenship because I am basically stuck in Germany until I get an EU passport.
Thoughts? Please no hate and no judgment otherwise I will ask for the topic to be locked.
