Most international/global companies have racially diverse employees: both in management and in indivual contributors. However, mid-size companies or large companies started in Germany and serving German customers (Germany-Austria-Switzerland), are often not as diverse.
Germany, I notice that management is usually German but individual contributors are racially diverse. For example, I currently work at a company with around 500 employees, I noticed 5-10 dark skin people in individual contributor roles and 0 non-Germans in management and senior management.
The discrimination may be structural or hidden. So, you can't just point to specific reasons. For example: one may say that non-Germans do not get promoted to senior management because they lack the skills. Therefore, it's hard to say whether it's discrimination based on race or on skills.
Since I did not do an emperical study and this is only my experience, I would like to hear what other people have noticed.
It has practical implications for me because in the future, when I would like to get into senior management positions, I wonder if I will have to move to another country to get such an opportunity or whether it would be possible in Germany.
