I am moving to a new city in Germany and I found a room in a WG. I had a video call with the landlord and he showed me the apartment and everything. He is an old man and he was friendly during the video call. Later he sent me the contract and in the contract it is stated that he must receive the deposit and the rent for the first month before handing over the keys. And he also sent an email to remind me of that. Is that normal in Germany to send money before moving in and meeting with the landlord? How can I ensure that it is not a scam and that I will get the room if I pay?
