Hey guys. Unfortunately recently somebody stole my front wheel and it seems like a getting new wheel paying for the installation fees to the bike repair guy would cost me over 100 Euro. I looked into if I could buy a used wheel from Ebay and replace it myself but couldn't find a matching tire in my area and I don't have the tools to install the wheel anyway so there is that. While looking for the wheels, I realized that there are a lot of bicycles on Ebay Kleinanzeigen and FB Marketplace that go under 100 Euro. Is this normal though? Whenever I check something on Kleinanzeigen people are tend to overprice their used items so this raises a flag in my head.
My two biggest concerns are, how reliable these bicycles are and how can I make sure I am not buying a stolen bike or can minimize the chances of it at least? I've encountered some accounts on Ebay, where a user listed more than 4 bikes in their profile, and as long as this person is not SUPER-DUPER into the bike-scene, I don't think they belong to him and it makes me think that these are all stolen bikes. What's interesting is there are a lot of accounts like this so it's hard to tell what's going on.
Someone suggested in another this type of post that, some states have lines for stolen bikes where you can dial their number and tell them the bike's production number so they can tell you if it's registered as stolen but I don't know if we have that here in Baden-Württemberg, I don't know how many people would even know their bike production number and to be bothered to report it, and even then I don't think these sellers would be very eager to share the production number with me, let alone if they can even find it.
How woud you or did you approach such situation in the past? I'd like to hear your opinions over it.
