German used car sales contract.

For buying a used car from a dealer or private indivudual. You have to sign a sales contract. How enforcable is this contract? Say you had cold feet, didnt have the money or found something bad on the car before paying money and you wanted to cancel the contract?
A few dealers I have met dont really want you to test drive unless you would be willing to buy the car that day. So was just wondering?
