ELI5, given recent direct escalations between Iran and Israel, why did Iran declare that they sent out drones/missiles?

Basically the title. What's the purpose of announcing that attack has been launched by Iran? Won't they have more success catching them (Israel forces) less alert? or is this more like you killed some of our ppl, we're gonna retaliate a bit? Are there any systems in place that make sure that they (Iran) have to announce the attack? What's the purpose?
