Hey guys, I've recently graduated with my bachelors in Geology, and was wondering if I'm in the minority of people having trouble breaking into the job market. I've got experience from a geostructural internship I worked during my undergrad, as well as multiple field camps focused on specific topics, but I dont know if that is "enough" right now to land a job. I've looked into just about every field I can within Texas (specifically Houston and Dallas), and so far I'm a little over a month in with not much to show for it. Is it time to think in the aspect of "paying my dues" and taking a really low paying job to get experience? I had an offer from a lab, but pay was on the lower end of 30k which would make living on my own a bit of a stretch (I made an expenses budget before I declined/tried to negotiate).
My question is where the hell are ALL the other geology graduates going to get work? Is the oilfields or the rigs where we're expected to start if we dont have an internship-permanent position track, or am I just expecting too much for the first month of job hunting? The main issue I've run into is that I dont have enough experience for most positions, or for interviews that I do get, someone else is right there with more experience than me anyways so I'm not too sure what to do or even how to think about this at this point. Any advice, insight, or words of wisdom?
