About 2 hours ago, my little brother was out fishing with his friend when they stumbled upon a baby goose. He or she was still wet from hatching. My brother and his friend searched for nearby geese for some time but could not find any. It appeared the baby was left behind, so he brought it home. We have experience raising chickens with the help of a heat lamp or a broody hen. However, we have no experience with ducks or geese.
I have set up a cardboard box with wood chips, a towel, waterer with rocks in it so he won’t drown, dampened chick starter (it’s what we had), and I’ve placed a heat lamp some distance above his or her box. This is a temporary enclosure until we figure out what the next step is.
The gosling seems fine. It won’t eat or drink yet, but I’ve heard that’s typical for a new baby. He is still in the process of drying.
Any input, tips, or tricks would be helpful. Thank you
