Why does my soaker hose not work that great from my rain barrel?

I got a rain barrel set up and it got filled up from a rain last week. I bought a 50ft soaker hose to water my garden with. I turned on the tap and instantly it started working all the way to the end of the hose. Well over the course of 12 hours it worked VERY slowly basically just making the dirt wet right under the hose itself. And this morning its not got hardly any water coming out even tho the barrel is still way more than half full.
Is there a trick I'm missing?
