Can I use peat moss for seedlings?

I have quite a bit of peat moss and perlite lying around and wanted to see if I could use it for catnip and flower seeds. I'm just curious if it's okay to use even with regular plants. I'm very new to the different kinds of planting mediums, so I hope this question isn't too stupid!
