Growing in a pipe and root depth?
Post Body
I'm looking at plans for next year and because we're renting, we can't really dig up the ground. A plan we've been looking at is using lengths of large PVC pipe (which I can get for cheap) and cutting holes along the length, sealing it at both ends, filling it with soil, and growing out of that.
How might this effect plants whose roots try to go deeper than the width of the pipe? Will they just turn sideways and that's it or will this compromise their ability to grow?
I'm not worried about root binding, plants will be spaced far enough apart that it isn't a concern.
